Since we are close to Valentine's Day I thought I would share a few pictures of the wedding invitations I made for my sister's wedding. It was my first time making invitations, and I really enjoyed making them for my sister. Thanks Liz for giving me the opportunity to do this for you.
I think an invitation should give an idea of what one is to expect at the wedding. I wanted it to feel like you were receiving a gift in the mail. I wrapped the invitation, favor of a reply, and the map in a satin ribbon.
This is the envelope it would have come in.
My sister's colors were a peony pink and black. (I know these are not peonies, since peonies are out of season I had to use my camellias. (So please pretend with me, that they are!)
I used paper that had the texture and look of linen. For the background I laser scanned a piece of fabric with a flower design on it. I printed this on the invitation, the envelope, and the favor of a reply. I got this idea from Cath Kidston's in print book. (I highly recommend this book) My sister was putting her wedding together on a tight budget, so I printed them out on my laser printer. I wish we could of had them professionally letter pressed. That would have been really expensive though.
I love antique shell buttons. I felt like the invitation really needed something added to the top. So I stitched the button to the top of the invitation.
The favor of a reply was an already stamped postcard that just needed filled out and dropped in the mail. I l used their monograms on the front.
This is the other side of the post card
Liz wanted to have a map to go along with the invitation. We wanted it to seem vintage and unique. I asked Damian (my brother in law) to draw a map for us. Well this is what he came up with. I think the map was my favorite part of the whole invitation. Beings my sister's color were black and pink, this was a subtle way to add the black into the whole design. I laser scanned some tissue paper I had saved. I lightened it until it became kind of a newsprint black.
On Monday I will share a few pictures of my sister's wedding and share some decorating ideas with all of you. I am a little disappointed in how my pictures of them look on the blogger. Hopefully you get the idea.
I want to also let you all know about a fabulous giveaway. Federica from Sweet as a Candy (click here) is giving away a gorgeous pillow slip from Petit Coterie . She designs her pillow slips to look like vintage grain sacks. They are really sweet. Her shop is now added to my favorite shop site! You need to hop over to Federica's Sweet as a Candy blog and check it out. You won't be sorry. She has a beautiful blog as well. Good Luck!
Happy Valentine's Day.
My kids have a cattle show this weekend, so I won't be able to get back to any of you until after Sunday night. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Thank you again for all of your amazing encouragement. You are the neatest group of women! I feel blessed to be apart of your world!
Take Care,
Maria
